winter at the vineyard

What a challenging growing season this has been! Consistent rain throughout the year, high humidity and intermittent sunshine saw Glenn working around the clock. With the frantic end to the growing season over and the fruit now in the hands of our master winemakers – Alain Rousseau and Nick Glaetzer, we at last have time to sit back and taste some of the rewards of previous years spent toiling in the vineyard.  We recommend you try our latest releases, including the 2008 Vintner’s Reserve Riesling and the 2010 Pinot Noir.

glenn in the vineyard

The summer of 2010/11 has been challenging for the vineyards of southern Tasmania. La Niña has quite a bit to answer for! Lots of rain, high humidity and plenty of sunshine has led to prolific vine growth with large bunches of grapes. Summer is here at Observatory Hill. The winter rain has quenched the thirst of the vines at last and bud burst has begun. While rain at the right time is great for the vineyard, drier years often result in wines with more intense and complex flavours and 2008 proved to be such a year for Observatory Hill. Produced with Observatory Hill’s trademark care and skill, we are sure you will enjoy these wines.
